Roger Yates

Roger Yates became a vegan in 1979 for ethical reasons. For most of his adult life, he’s been involved in various roles in the grassroots animal rights movement. In the late 1980s, he served 4 years in prison for his press liaison work for the Animal Liberation Front (ALF).

Roger is also a lecturer in sociology and has taught social theory, critical theory, the sociology of humour, and social movements and protest modules. His MA was about the British animal advocacy movement, and his PhD was a study of the three pillars of the ideology of speciesism: theology, philosophy, and everyday social practice.

He's the organising volunteer for the Dublin-based Vegan Information Project and co-founder of The Animal Rights Show, a weekly online internet programme.
