When Fatma Biltekin realized eleven years ago that speciesism is a form of discrimination, she changed her habits and started working for animal rights. In 2011, she started working with the Freedom to Earth Association, which was the first organization in Turkey working to end all forms of discrimination. Since 2014, she has been working with the Animal Rights Monitoring Committee (HAKIM), of which she is a founding member. She has worked as a facilitator in speciesism workshops developed by HAKİM for children and adults. In adidtion, together with HAKIM, she has collaborated with the Association for Struggle Against Sexual Violence to create the Struggle with Sexual Violence Against Animals workshop. On behalf of HAKIM, she currently coordinates the reporting of animal rights violations. She also takes part in lobbying activities to advocate for the changing of animal rights laws in favor of animals. She is the chairwoman of the Animal Rights and Ethics Association, of which she has been a member since 2012.
